SHORELINE PROTECTION

MORRISON ROCKWOOD

STATE PARK

WHITESIDE COUNTY, IL

Artisan was tasked to provide engineering services to improve ADA accessibility and create/ update boat accessibility, courtesy docks, shoreline protection, and replacing kiosks.

The Morrison-Rockwood State Park is a 1,164 acre park located in Whiteside County two and one-half miles north of Morrison near Route 78. Lake Carlton is the focal point of the park where visitors enjoy picnicking, camping, fishing, boating, hiking, equestrian trails and during winter, ice fishing and ice skating. This was a Department of Natural Resource project contracted with the Illinois Capital Development Board.

Artisan initiated the project with survey analysis. The shoreline was surveyed from boat and land. It was determined, to comply with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), the design included 150’ of ADA accessible ramps. The boat docks were also designed to comply with correct sloping for ADA accessibility, including the gangway, swing gates and toe boards. The site amenities were also re-designed and graded to allow for two handicap boat parking stalls and two handicap van stalls. The project also included modernization and redesign of the boat launch and drive thru access, sidewalk, and three sided information kiosks.
